As is often the case in the Mid-State region of Maine, there just aren’t many RV parks to camp in with your motorhome rental from Cushing. Camden Hills Campground in Camden isn’t too far away though and has some beautiful, well-shaded sites with full hookups, a dump station, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi. Camden is a great town to visit too and looks exactly like you’d expect a coastal resort town in Maine to be. If you’re traveling during the summer, the famed North Atlantic Blues Festival takes over the town for the second weekend of July each year. Megunticook Campground is just a short drive down the road from Camden Hills Campground. It’s got a few more amenities like a swimming pool and oceanfront observation deck, along with laundry facilities and full hookups. Another option for your travel trailer rental from Cushing is the Lobster Buoy Campsites just east of town, which offers electrical and water hookups. There are no sewer hookups on site, but there is a communal dump station. It has a picturesque location too, along the stone-strewn coast a few miles south of the popular vacation destination of Rockland.

Cushing is a fairly quiet town and doesn’t really have much of a restaurant scene or any attractions of its own. However, there’s plenty to do in nearby Thomaston when you get an RV rental in Cushing. Thomaston is most famous for being the site of Maine’s state prison – the inspiration for the film The Shawshank Redemption. However, a silver lining to its presence is the Maine State Prison Store, which sells beautiful handicrafts created by the prisoners themselves. The Mid-Coast region is a popular place for New England’s artists to come to enjoy nature and work on their craft. It’s why you’ll usually see several art galleries along the main street of any of the state’s resort towns. A more unique display of art can be found at Cushing’s Langlais Sculpture Preserve in North Cushing, close to Montgomery Point. Massive wooden carvings depicting animals, humans, and even the head of former president Richard Nixon pop out of the coastal grasslands to spark whimsy in even the weariest of tourists. The nearby town of Rockland has several galleries to peruse too, which is a great rainy day activity if you’re visiting during Maine’s unpredictable spring season. Rockland is also home to the Owls Head Transportation Museum and its massive collection of automobiles and even a few airplanes. If you’re a gearhead, you’re going to love the vintage race cars on display, which have all been restored and buffed to their original luster. There are even a few exhibits designed for kids that demonstrate how motors are built and function.
