Round out your visit to Chillicothe by visiting the Hopeton Earthworks National Historic Park. This is a cultural archaeological site which preserves mounds and earthwork enclosures. This historical park is on the northern edge of Chillicothe and sits on the eastern bank of the Scioto River. The site was opened to the public in 2016 and is only accessible to visitors during daylight hours. A one-mile trail leads visitors to an overlook area where they can admire the remnants of the earthwork. There are no restrooms, and visitors should respect the historical significance of the area and not stray from the trail.
