Getting Outdoors

Taking time away from busy schedules and the grind of daily life isn't as difficult as you might think. Make the choice to spend a few days, or even a week, camping in an RV and discovering the great outdoors of the Buckeye State. On your Deer Creek State Park camping trip, bring along your boat for fun times on the water. However, make sure you complete the Aquatic Invasive Species Certification and obtain your permit before launching your boat in the Deer Creek Reservoir. Deer Creek State Park requires all boaters to wear life jackets; this includes stand up paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks.

Spend time on the Deer Creek Trail, an eight-mile segment of the Provo-Jordan River Parkway. Deer Creek Trail is a non-motorized trail that overlooks the Deer Creek Reservoir and is excellent for hiking, biking, or horseback riding. The trail is well-maintained and is an easy hike for most skill levels. Dogs aren't allowed the trail, and nobody is allowed to go within 1,500 feet of the dam. People wishing to fish on the western shore of Deer Creek can access that point from the trail. There are two trailheads where hikers, bikers, and equestrians can enter the trail.

Kiteboarding, or kiting, is a fun activity that Deer Creek State Park campers enjoy. The park offers kiteboarding lessons on the Deer Creek Reservoir during which participants learn how to be safe while sailing through the sky. Group or private lessons are available. Once you've learned the basics of kiting, you'll be ready to try out your skills and fly high over the Heber Valley and Deer Creek Reservoir.
