Discover John Bryan State Park

Renowned as one of the most scenic locations in western Ohio, John Bryan State Park is a tranquil and beautiful camping spot. Of course, there's a whole lot more to this 752-acre park, located in Yellow Springs, than just the scenery.

While visitors are drawn to the park by its striking limestone gorge and its views of the Little Miami River, they love the destination for the wide range of recreational activities on offer. Canoeing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing are popular pastimes here, so you'll find plenty to do even if you're planning on staying for a few days or more.

And with a peaceful wooded campground you can call home for a while, John Bryan State Park is a wonderful spot to explore in a rental RV.

Getting Outdoors

The Little Miami River is designated as a state and national scenic river, and a portion of it runs right through John Bryan State Park. Clifton Gorge is also found in the park and is recognized as a national natural landmark, so sightseeing should be high on your list of things to do once you've set up camp at John Bryan State Park.

For the best views, slip into your hiking boots and tackle the Gorge Trail. There are ten other hiking trails you can also explore during your stay in the park — check out the half-mile Quarry Loop Trail if you just want a short walk, or the North Rim Trail for something a little more challenging. The Arboretum Trail is also open to bicycles if you prefer getting around on two wheels, and there's a total of ten miles of trails open to mountain biking.

For most campers, however, the main highlight of a vacation in John Bryan State Park involves getting out on the Little Miami River. Famed as an excellent canoeing destination, the river's twisting course sees it wind past steep cliffs and towering trees, promising beautiful scenery and family fun in equal measure. There's a canoe launch area not far from the park on Jacoby Road, so make sure you pack your swimwear.

If you're keen to do some stream fishing, you'll also feel right at home here. Panfish, smallmouth bass, and rock bass can all be caught here, and there are several excellent spots within the park where you can wet a line. However, you'll need to make sure you have a valid Ohio fishing license before you get started.

Finally, if you're looking to get a little exercise and have some fun with the whole family, John Bryan State Park also has its own 18-hole disc golf course. It's easy to play and kids love it, so you might find yourself playing the course more than once.

Camping at John Bryan State Park

If you want to camp in an RV in John Bryan State Park, search for a rental motorhome in Greene County and then reserve a site in the park's wooded campground. There are 61 sites to choose from — nine electric and 52 non-electric — and most of them are at least partially shaded to help you escape the summer heat. Spaces accommodate rigs up to 35 feet long.

Each site gets its own picnic table and fire ring, while restrooms, a dump station, and drinking water are all provided. However, it's worth noting that drinking water is not available in the off-season, which runs from the start of November to the end of March.

The good news is that if you're traveling with your dog, pets are welcome on all sites. Just make sure your dog stays on a leash and that you clean up after them at all times.

Exploring the Area

One of the great things about motorhome camping at John Bryan State Park is that you don't have to limit yourself to simply exploring the park itself. While the park certainly offers plenty to see and do, there's also no shortage of wonderful attractions to be found nearby.

If military history is your thing, head west towards Dayton to visit the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB. If you'd rather continue exploring the Ohio state park system, take a 35-minute drive south towards Wilmington and check out Little Miami State Park.

Of course, if you want to head for a major city, you can steer your RV rental to the northeast and be in Columbus within an hour. While you're there, make sure you spend a day at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium — a must for any animal lover.

You'll find a whole lot to enjoy when you rent a camper near John Bryan State Park, so start planning your next camping vacation today.
