The town was named after the spring wildflowers and palo verde trees that make up its vivid landscape. Residents like to say, “there is a reason we call this valley paradise”. The town as it is known today originally began when the cities of Phoenix and Scottsdale were looking to expand their respective boundaries.

The residents of the valley feared being swallowed up by these larger cities and losing their peaceful rural lifestyle. They formed a citizens committee to promote the incorporation of the town and in 1961 its incorporation was granted and the town of Paradise Valley was established.
