About 45 miles northeast of Roseville, CA lies the small town of Alta. In the mountainous terrain surrounding Alta, you can lose yourself among the endless forests. When miners first discovered Secret Town, they couldn't help but notice the plethora of gold. To keep it a secret, they used the name Secret Town amongst one another. The name stuck. You can follow trails, view old, abandoned railroads, and swim in the nearby river.

The Golden Drift Museum in Dutch Flat also shares in the gold history of Placer County. Here you'll find old photographs taken at the time of the Gold Rush.
