Getting Outdoors

Barrett Lake is carefully managed to preserve the fish stock and also protect the water supply. To access the lake, you have to make a reservation online and purchase tickets. Access to the lake is through private land and locked gates, which you will be escorted through. Camping at Barrett Lake is prohibited, so you’ll need to find an RV campground nearby.

Camping at Barrett Lake

There are no campgrounds at Barrett Lake. The nearest is Corral Canyon campground, but this is definitely a site for those that enjoy disconnecting from the world. The campground is very basic and doesn’t even have potable water available. There is a vault toilet, but that is the extent of the facilities. It’s probably not the first choice for people camping with an RV.

Exploring the Area

The nearest town of any size is Alpine, around 30 minutes to the north, which is close to Interstate 8. Here you’ll find all the facilities you need, such as a gas station, general stores, and restaurants. It is a great place to stock up on your essentials before taking your rental RV on to a campground.

This van was small but mighty. We are a family of three with two adults and a tween. We slept comfortably during our trip to Death Valley. The van came stocked with all we needed. We only had to bring clothes and food and any entertainment we wanted.

Had a great experience renting this RV. It was super clean, spacious, and very well maintained. Everything worked perfectly and made the trip comfortable and stress-free. You can tell the owner takes great care of it. I would definitely rent this RV again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smooth and enjoyable trip!

This is a beautiful and very capable van for BLM land camping or road tripping. The AWD handled rutted dirt roads up the mountain. The kitchen and sleeping provisions were great. The electrical and connectivity allowed us to do some work remote, watch a movie, cook, get hot water, have nice lighting, etc. Sara was so helpful and responsive answering a few questions we had right after we got on the road. Would love to rent Vän Gheetah again!
