Diamond Valley Lake is a man-made reservoir located between Los Angeles and San Diego and is one of the newest in Southern California. Construction began in 1995, and it took four years for the reservoir to be filled, finally being completed in 2003. Water is supplied by the Colorado River Aqueduct, and the primary aim is to provide additional water during periods of drought.
