Hughson was formed back in the 19th century by Hiram Hughson and for much of its history, the town was known for its expansive peach orchards that earned it the nickname of the “Peach Capital of the World”. Hughson and the Modesto area were also brought to the attention of the American public through George Lucas’s film, American Graffiti, which highlighted the “cruising” lifestyle of fast cars and rock & roll music in the 1950s. The Great Outdoors
Getting out to enjoy nature is not difficult as both the ocean and the towering Sierra Nevada range is within close driving distance when you get a travel trailer rental in Hughson. Yosemite National Park isn’t too far away and provides one of the premier outdoor experiences in North America. There are dozens of trails to hike, from treks lasting less than an hour along flat terrain to those taking multiple days and traversing expert-only terrain. There’s also the iconic Half Dome, which is well worth climbing if you can get a spot in line – due to its relative ease, it’s one of the most popular climbs in the country.
RV Parks near Hughson
There aren’t too many parks in town by when you choose an RV rental in Hughson. However, there are a few just a short drive away. One of the closest places to camp, when you rent an RV, is at the Merced River RV Resort; Merced isn’t too far away and is considerably bigger than Hughson. The park offers full hookups, laundry facilities, and a swimming pool. Another option is the Kit Fox RV Park near Patterson. It’s a smaller park but still has full hookups, showers, and toilets. If you’re thinking about spending more time in Modesto or Stockton to the north of it, you might consider staying at French Camp RV Park in Manteca, which is halfway between the two larger cities. The park is not huge but it does have a swimming pool and spa to hang out in along with all the usual amenities like full hookups and some expansive green spaces to walk your four-legged friends.
Exploring the Town of Hughson
With few exceptions, most of the interesting things to do in the Hughson area are located in nearby Modesto. One of the exceptions to this is the Hughson Historical Society and Museum, which features loads of interesting artifacts from the town’s history curated in such a way as to tell the story of how one young man came to purchase the land that Hughson now sits on. It’s a fascinating tale loaded with tidbits of information about California in the late 19th century.

We had a great experience renting Rachel’s camping trailer. Both her and her and husband are very nice people and were accommodating when it came to our questions about the different features this trailer has. The generator provided was very quiet and made the experience of using the TV pleasurable to watch at night. I recommend renting this trailer and I look forward to renting it again myself.
