The appropriately named Pacifica is a small city on the Pacific Coast of Northern California. The town is just south of San Francisco on the same peninsula, and west of San Jose. There are several districts in Pacifica, each spread out along six miles of picturesque coastline and rolling emerald hills. Pacifica was once home to two Ohlone indigenous villages and is one of the oldest European settlements in California. The Spanish colonizers landed on the shores of Pacifica back in 1769 but it was not officially incorporated as a town until 1957.
Pacifica is a phenomenal place to rent an RV and plan a vacation for a variety of reasons, most notably its stunning beaches where surfers from all over the country come to see for themselves. This outdoor paradise is excellent for mountain biking, swimming, fishing, surfing, and hiking through miles of untamed forest and exquisite nature by the sea. The town itself is a lovely place to walk around, with charming shops, local eateries, and an eclectic mix of attractions to keep you on your toes. Part of the appeal of this beach town when you choose to book an RV in Pacifica is the ability to visit other nearby cities in the Bay Area. No place is out of reach, from the national parks and forests to the world-class cities in Northern California, when you take your Pacifica travel trailer rental for the trip of a lifetime.
Finding an amazing park, forest, or beach to spend time at when you rent an RV in Pacifica should be the least of your concerns. There is a treasure trove of exceptional parks in the area in any direction you look. Pacifica State Beach is conveniently located in the middle of town and is one of the most popular public beaches in the Golden State, with over a million visitors each year. People delight in relaxing strolls on the beach, sun tanning, reading books while listening to the sounds of the ocean, or going for a swim when they visit the beach. Surfing is the most common activity you might notice at the beach, with excellent waves for beginners and large waves for expert surfers when storm surges hit the town.
McNee Ranch State Park sits on the coast just south of town and provides a fabulous alternative to Pacifica State Beach. The highest elevation of the park sits nearly 2,000 feet above sea level, leaving hikers with breathtaking views of the surrounding areas and coastlines upon reaching the summit. There are lots of rare and exotic plants and animals at the park, further adding to its importance as a natural sanctuary for migratory birds and endemic plants. Montara State Beach is part of the park and has incredible views of the water too.
There are plenty of state parks within a 20-minute drive when you pick up your motorhome rental in Pacifica, but you can try to visit some of them on your way to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, one of the most famous state parks in the country. In fact, you can drive your Pacifica RV rental down the legendary California Highway 1 and truly enjoy the ride to this stunning park in central California, no more than a few hours south. The park is often referred to as “little Yosemite” due to its unreal beauty, with lots of qualities in common with the more well-known national park to the east. Hidden coves with secret waterfalls trickling down elegant geological features are all you need to hear about to know that a visit to the park is warranted. On the way back up to Pacifica, be sure to stop by Pinnacle National Park, one of the newest additions to the national park system. The park is home to marvelous cliffs and canyons that can be hiked and climbed by experienced trekkers and climbers. You can also explore several large caves in the park and camp out at one of its campgrounds in your Pacifica RV rental should you feel the urge to stay a few extra days.
