Nestled in the Conejo Valley, 40 miles to the West of Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks is one of the best places to rent an RV in Ventura County, CA. You’ll be close to everything in the LA area, while still be far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet in your luxury motorhome rental in Thousand Oaks.

Thousand Oaks operates its own bus system and includes five different lines, with buses departing about every 15 minutes. For those wanting to travel into Los Angeles, it can be a little complicated, with most routes requiring at least one bus transfer. There’s a Metrolink station ten miles North of the city in Moorpark, which would be an easier, albeit slower option.

RV Parks in Thousand Oaks

As is often the case in Southern California, RV parks are few and far between. One of the closest parks to Thousand Oaks is actually in Malibu, 20 miles to the South. Malibu Beach RV Park has 142 sites just steps from the beach, however, prices are what you’d expect from a park with such stunning ocean views. A cheaper alternative is to take the Thousand Oaks RV rental a few miles to the North, to Malibu Creek State Park. The park only has nine spaces for RVs, so it’s important that you reserve it sometime in advance. The landscapes around the park are a popular filming location and can be seen in Planet of the Apes and M*A*S*H*.

Another option is to park the Thousand Oaks motorhome rental at Oak Park in Simi Valley, about 14 miles to the North. Sites are inexpensive, however, they’re located very close to a busy railroad track, so you’ll probably need some ear plugs to get a good night’s sleep. Simi Valley also has the closest Walmart to Thousand Oaks, so you might want to stock up on provisions for the Thousand Oaks rental RV while you’re there. The Tapo Canyon Park, about 23 miles North of Thousand Oaks, is much quieter, but only has 16 spaces for RVs. The concrete pads are fairly small though and might not be suitable for larger Thousand Oaks RV rentals. If nothing else, you can park your rig at Walnut RV Park in Northridge, 22 miles to the East. Public transportation between the cities is slow and requires multiple transfers, so it’s best to find somewhere closer if you can.

Exploring Thousand Oaks

Though less than an hour from LA, Thousand Oaks is a peaceful oasis of shopping malls, gardens, and suburban entertainment that feels a world away from the crowds and traffic of its neighboring city.

To learn more about local history, you might want to visit the Chumash Indian Museum, which explores the culture and way of life of the Native American tribe that made their home in Southern California. It’s not very big, but it is situated in a beautiful park and is a nice stop if you’re wandering the nearby trails. If you’re someone that likes to stop and smell the roses, you’ll surely enjoy the Conejo Valley Botanical Garden. The 33-acre garden contains 40 different varieties of fruit trees and 60 different types of salvia native to Southern California.

After a big day of sightseeing, sometimes you want nothing more than to sit in a cool, darkened room to watch a movie. If you ever wanted to experience a luxury theater, Cinepolis in Thousand Oaks is the place to do it. If you prefer live theater, the Conejo Players Association puts on some great shows like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and West Side Story.

Fans of craft beer and local wine will want to local breweries and wineries in town, as well as in neighboring Westlake Village and Camarillo.
