Innisfil lies at the northern edge of the Greater Toronto area and offers the quiet beauty of the suburbs with easy access to all of the exciting attractions in the city. Many visitors choose to book an RV in Innisfil simply because it’s so central to everything else. Should you decide to make a day trip into Toronto though, it’s a good idea to make use of the city’s public transportation system rather than driving your big RV rental on the city streets where traffic and parking can be a real hassle.

However, many visitors who want a quiet experience might never leave the Innisfil area. It has a number of great outdoor recreation spots, excellent shopping, and quite a few restaurants nearby. Additionally, many of the campsites where you might stay are very close to town.

Discover Innisfil

The Great Outdoors

Despite being on the edge of a major metropolitan area, Innisfil is close to some fantastic outdoor recreation spots. Lake Simcoe is probably the most obvious place to spend the day outside when you rent an RV in Innisfil. There are several places along the lake to rent a kayak or canoe, but most of them are located near the lake’s outlet on the north side. The fishing is great too, so be sure to pick up an Ontario fishing license before heading out.

If you’re just looking for a quiet day out with the family, there’s no better place to go than Centennial Park in the nearby town of Barrie. There are no specific attractions to this green space, but it’s got plenty of trees and large grassy areas that make it the ideal location for a picnic. There’s also a small playground for the little ones and a shop that sells ice cream cones.

If your RV vacation is planned during the winter months, you’ll surely want to mark out a day for a trip to the Snow Valley Ski Resort near Minesing. It’s certainly not the biggest mountain, but it’s relatively large for Ontario, plus there are plenty of easier runs for family fun and those who are new to the slopes. They’ve also got a couple of tubing lanes if you enjoy sliding around but don’t want to strap skis or a board to your feet.

RV Parks

One of the closest places to stay when you get a travel trailer rental in Innisfil is the Toronto North/Cookstown KOA. Here you’ll find full hookups, a heated swimming pool, a dog park, bicycle rentals, and a mini-golf course. In addition to nice amenities, the park organizes activities like movie nights and volleyball games where you can get together for some fun with your fellow travelers. The park is located on the edge of town, which gives you easy access to Barrie.

If you’re seeking a park with a more rural atmosphere, consider staying at Meadowbrook Campground near the town of New Tecumseth when you choose an RV rental in Innisfil. It’s just a short distance to the west of Innisfil and offers sites with electrical and water hookups along with a dump station, showers, and a playground. Most important though are the hiking and swimming opportunities to be found in the adjacent Earl Rowe Provincial Park.

Also close to New Tecumseth is Nicolston Dam RV Park, which sits on the beautiful Nottawasaga River. It’s not the most amenity-heavy park around, but offers water and electrical hookups for your camper rental from Innisfil, along with some picnic tables and fire rings. If you’re just looking for a place to get away from it all, this could be the spot.

Exploring the City

There aren’t many specific attractions in Innisfil itself, but it’s a great starting place regardless of the type of fun you wish to have when you rent an RV here. There are a couple of wineries (Ontario has one of the best climates for grape growing in Canada) and a few breweries in the surrounding towns. For a day of shopping, head over to the outlet mall near Highway 89 and 400 interchanges. They’ve got some of the biggest name brand stores along with some lesser-known names, and all of them offer discounted prices. If you want to find some great deals when you get a motorhome rental in Innisfil, this is the place to go. If you’re a deal hunter, but antiquing is your game, check out the antique store in Cookstown for some truly unique offerings.

Motorsports fans will surely want to mark out a day for a visit to Sunset International Speedway, the closest track to Toronto and one of the best places to watch stock car races. The track was remodeled in 2009 to become a third-mile high-banked oval, which is fantastic if you like seeing fast-paced races with lots of leader changes.

To learn about the agricultural history and farming practices of Ontario, you might enjoy a trip out to the family-friendly farm near Barrie. They’ve got a corn maze, wagon rides, and even a haunted barn that’s fantastic for the kids. Their corn on the cob is no slouch either.
