Exploring the Area

Sitting on the banks of the Connecticut River, Middletown is known as the home of the Wesleyan University. The city has a very youthful vibe thanks to many creatives who come here from all corners of the United States to attend the university. There are many landmarks in and around Middletown. One of them is the General Mansfield House. It is run by the Middlesex County Historical Society. The impressive house was constructed in 1817 by Catherine and Samuel Livingston Mather. It is known for a large garden that surrounds the mansion. Visitors could also tour the house’s interior and see the ornate decorations from the 19th century.

Hurd State Park campers who are traveling with kids shouldn’t miss an opportunity to visit the Kidcity Children's Museum. What makes this museum so special is the fact that all exhibits were handmade by local artists. Kids from ages one to seven may roam around the three available floors, interacting with every installation and learning useful things about the world. For instance, youngsters may go to Middleshire, a tiny village, and create their little castle.

Visitors may find restaurants, convenience stores, and other shops on Main Street. The culinary scene here is quite good, with several international restaurants.
