There are over 20 acres of beautiful botanical gardens, nine historic buildings, including Edison's botanic research laboratory, and a museum, which contains an amazing collection of artifacts, inventions, and special exhibit galleries. Here you will be able to learn about all of Edison's inventions and how he influenced the discovery of many things. The doors and windows to the houses are open and you can peek in, but you are not allowed inside. All the rooms are furnished in the way they were when Edison and Ford lived there. After the two to three hour tour, you can relax and have a meal in the Banyan Refreshment Area.

"Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is part of a larger complex that includes the Caloosahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, The Matlacha Pass National Wildlife Refuge, Pine Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The 8,000 acres are mostly nesting and roosting islands.
