Thomas Edison, the inventor, and Henry Ford, the car giant, owned houses next door to each other in Fort Myers, Florida. They are set in beautiful grounds, which have been kept as they were when Edison and Ford lived there. It is a great place to visit, and you can choose to do a tour either as an audio experience so that you can see everything at your own pace, or with a guide. There are over 20 acres of beautiful botanical gardens, nine historic buildings, including Edison's botanic research laboratory, and a museum, which contains an amazing collection of artifacts, inventions, and special exhibit galleries. Here you will be able to learn about all of Edison's inventions and how he influenced the discovery of many things. The doors and windows to the houses are open and you can peek in, but you are not allowed inside. All the rooms are furnished in the way they were when Edison and Ford lived there. After the two to three hour tour, you can relax and have a meal in the Banyan Refreshment Area.
