The doors and windows to the houses are open and you can peek in, but you are not allowed inside. All the rooms are furnished in the way they were when Edison and Ford lived there. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is part of a larger complex that includes the Caloosahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, The Matlacha Pass National Wildlife Refuge, Pine Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The 8,000 acres are mostly nesting and roosting islands.
