Getting Outdoors

Without a doubt, swimming is the most popular activity at Kailua Beach Park. Hawaii’s location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean makes for some incredible weather. That, coupled up with the stunning picture-postcard Kailua Beach makes for an amazing swimming experience. Unlike the neighboring Lanikai Beach, Kailua is larger and has several amenities, including picnic tables and beach showers.

Camping at Kailua Beach

There are a couple of RV parks to consider while state park RV camping in Honolulu. Situated on the western side of the island, the Nanakuli Beach Park has back-in sites with no hookups, which makes it perfect for boondocking. Campers, however, get access to the beach, outdoor showers, and pets are allowed. The sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Exploring the Area

Since you’re getting the chance to camp in a rental motorhome at Kailua Beach Park, why not exploit that opportunity to the fullest? Set aside a couple of days to tour the finest attractions in Honolulu. Known for its vibrant food scene and hip street art, Kaka'ako is perhaps the most exciting neighborhood in Honolulu. Bring along a camera to capture cool photos of the street graffiti. When hunger comes calling, hop into one of the many restaurants lining up the street and sample some of Hawaii’s culinary highlights such as poi and squid luau.

My wife and two daughters had a good time in the van. The host was helpful and communicated well. The van let us explore the whole island and. The van has some great features and was comfortable to sleep 4 adults. They provided a portable battery for keeping devices charged. Beach chairs, a couple of snorkeling sets, towels.
We had a few issues along the way, most of them were no big deal but worth noting:
- we had some pretty wet weather several nights and discovered several leaks in the van.
- the fridge stopped working for a day and we lost some food but it did start working again the next day and through the rest of our trip.
- the stove does not work but the host provided a couple of camping stoves that did the trick.
Overall we really enjoyed the experience and would do it again.

Very solid vehicle! Loved driving it and exploring the island. Artem was responsive and made sure I had everything I needed. Will definitely rent again next time I’m on the island!
