Looking for that magical vacation spot that you so definitely deserve? Kailua Beach Park is on the southeastern coast of the island of O’ahu in Hawai'i. A 30-minute drive to Honolulu, one hour's drive south of Turtle Bay, and half an hour east of Waipahu, Kailua Beach Park is the tropical oasis you've been yearning for.

In the 1940s, Kailua was a quiet little town, but with the rise of WWII, the town expanded to make room for post-war development. It's grown substantially throughout the years and is now a major attraction for tourists and beachgoers.

If it’s gorgeous beaches, close proximity to shopping, and fun water sports you’re looking for, Kailua Beach Park has you covered. Get your vacation started and book an RV in Honolulu County today.

Discover Kailua Beach Park

Getting Outdoors

When you’re on the island of O’ahu, you’re in the midst of paradise. When you’re at Kailua Beach Park, you're soaking up the sun at O’ahu’s second most beautiful beach. Luckily for you, the single most beautiful beach is a few minutes' drive away from Kailua Beach Park. The crystal-clear water is something you’d find on a postcard. If nothing else, this is the place you go to sit among the blue water, warm white sand, and overall scenic beauty and think about all the great decisions you made that landed you here.

Kayaking at Kailua Beach Park is another very popular activity. If you didn’t bring your own kayak, you'll find plenty of shops to rent a kayak nearby. Many vacationers will paddle out to the Mokulua Islands or just up along the coastline. Take in the sun, take in the sights, and get a little exercise while you’re at it.

Kailua Beach Park is a perfect place for a picnic. The park has everything you need for a family outing, including picnic tables, public bathrooms, and beach showers. You can go shopping in the downtown area, which is just a few minutes from the park, to get groceries and then post up on the beach.

Camping at Kailua Beach Park

There isn’t any place to park your RV rental at Kailua Beach Park. However, you'll find plenty of RV parks on the island of O’ahu. While it's the third largest island in Hawaii, it takes less than an hour to get anywhere by car. Here are a few of the parks within a 30-minute drive of Kailua Beach Park.

The closest RV park is Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, 15 minutes north of Kailua. This small campground has 10 primitive campsites for RVs, some of which are ADA-accessible. All sites are back-in and provide easy access to the beach. You’ll have a strong cell phone signal so you can stay in touch with loved ones. Showers are available, and pets are allowed.

Kualoa Regional Park is another place you can park your camper rental in O’ahu. Half an hour north of the park, Kualoa has 14 sites to choose from with no hookups of any kind. Fishing ponds and beach access are available to guests, as well as back-in campsites and outdoor showers. Kualoa also allows pets.

Sand Island State Recreation Area is only half an hour west of Kailua. While there aren’t any hookups here either, around 35 campsites are available for RVs. Pets aren't allowed, but there's an outdoor shower, great cellphone reception, and pit toilets.

Exploring the Area

Drive your Oahu RV rental all over the island and you’ll never be too far from Kailua Beach Park. The downtown area of Kailua is about five minutes away. Shopping at Kailua makes your stay very convenient. Anything you’ll need for your RV camping trip can be found in town, including food, but you’ll also find local shops where you can buy souvenirs to take home with you. If you just don’t want to think about what to prepare for dinner, you can choose from a slew of restaurants in Kailua.

It goes without saying that you'll spend much of your time by the turquoise waters and pristine beaches. But if you're in the mood for some history, venture half an hour west of Kailua to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. The museum documents the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor, which sunk the USS Arizona and killed more than 2,000 American soldiers and civilians. See the sunken WWII battleship and pay your respects to the brave servicemen who perished in the attack.

Learn about native Hawai'ian heritage at the 'Iolani Palace. Two palaces on this site have housed the Hawai'ian monarchy. The lavish estate you'll see today was built in the late 19th century. One of the many highlights of a tour here is King Kalākaua's library. Kalākaua ruled the island from the 1870s to the 1890s and committed himself to preserving Hawai'i's indigenous heritage. After wandering around the castle, venture outside to pay your respects to Hawai'i's kings at the Sacred Mound. While many of the remains were relocated in the mid-1800s, many members of Hawai'ian royalty are still likely buried here.

Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center and experience a hands-on encounter of the Polynesian way of life. Feast at a luau, learn ancient fishing practices, try your hand at throwing a spear — the eight island villages which comprise the cultural center offer no shortage of unique activities. After all the excitement, take the shuttle to spend a quiet moment in contemplation at the Laie Hawai'i Temple.

Though you'll likely be reluctant to leave this island paradise, you'll find tons of gas stations in the Kailua Beach Park area where you can top off your tank before you get back on the road. You can grab some local cuisine in Kailua featuring fresh, local seafood and produce. The next closest city to Kailua Beach Park is just a short 30 minutes drive west: the capital of Hawai'i, Honolulu.
