Hiking is an extremely popular activity for guests to Cedar Lake, and since the Cedar Lake Trail System travels over 14 miles, it is easy to spend a day or more on your feet. Four different trails are surrounding the lake, and when you are seeking more hiking head to the Trail of Tears State Forest. In this state forest, one of the more popular hiking destinations is the Pomona Natural Bridge. Fishing, boating, and swimming are also rather popular at Cedar Lake, especially during the warmer months. This lake has many beaches from which it can be accessed, many of which are sandy and soft underfoot. Numerous boat launches make it easy to get your boat in and out, and local tack shops will be happy to supply you with supplies to catch bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie, and more. While camping at Cedar Lake head to Giant City State Park for some climbing, and rappelling. These activities are permitted and encouraged in two different locations in the park, Devil’s Standtable cliff and Shelter #1 bluff. Climbers should always bring their own gear, and more importantly, should be aware that the park is home to copperhead snakes. These snakes are venomous, state-protected, and love to hang out on sun-warmed rocks and ledges. Also, while visiting the state park don’t be afraid to visit the Giant City Stables, which are at the north end of the park, near Clear Lake. These stables offer trail rides on an extensive 12-mile trail system, and guests will be able to ask all the questions they have about the park, horses, and the region during their ride. The stables are only open between mid-March and the end of October, though, so be sure to plan your RV rental vacation accordingly if interested.
