The peaceful city of Huntington is located southwest of Fort Wayne and east of Logansport. Established in the 1830s, Huntington is well-known as being a place where lots of treaties were signed. Native Americans initially named the area Wepecheange, meaning "place of flints."

The city was renamed Huntington after Samuel Huntington, who was a member of the first Continental Congress and a Huntington native. The city prospered due to the abundance of limestone in the region, along with its agricultural significance. When you rent an RV in Huntington, you'll be close to the Wabash and Erie Canal which is steeped in history, as well as the many natural sights surrounding these historic rivers.

The Great Outdoors

You'll be in the perfect spot for fishing when you book an RV rental in Huntington, and one of the best fishing spots is located just outside the city at J.E Roush Fish and Wildlife Area. This spot provides over 15 miles of river and 200 acres of reservoir to fish in, with favorite catches including catfish, various types of bass, and walleye. If fishing isn't your thing, the area is also great for hiking and nature watching due to the abundance of wildlife inhabiting the park. Some of the critters you're likely to see include waterfowl, deer, rabbits, and much more. Feel free to bring along a picnic and your binoculars for a relaxing day by the lake.

If you're looking to stay within the city when you book an RV in Huntington, then you can't miss visiting the Sunken Gardens. Originally a stone quarry, the city purchased this area in the 1920s and turned it into one of the most meticulously managed parks in the state. Complete with gorgeous fountains, gazebos, and bridges, this is an ideal place to bring a picnic and take a quick walk, with a walking trail that encircles the largest pond. There's also a playground and plenty of fields so feel free to bring the kids along for some much-needed playtime.

Or, you might be looking to get lost in nature when you rent a campervan in Huntington, in which case you should plan a visit to the Salamonie State Forest near Wabash. This park covers over 950 acres of forest and river, with different hiking trails ranging from two to eight miles in length. Along these trails, visitors will see beautiful views of the Salamonie River off rocky bluffs as well as stunning waterfalls. Hunting and fishing are favorite activities too, with lots of opportunity for both along the Salamonie River.

RV Parks

As Huntington is the most significant settlement in the county, there are a few options when you rent an RV here. One option is Camp Timber Lake. Containing over 70 grass campsites, this park provides full hookups at most of its spaces. However, a few sites offer electric only; 30 and 50 amp electric are supported here, and there are even a few sites which off pull-through access. Amenities include laundry, showers, and restrooms, and there are some recreational activities at the nearby pond, including swimming and fishing.

Another option to consider when you have a motorhome rental in Huntington is located at the J.Edward Roush Lake. This basic campground provides over 50 gravel campsites, most of which provide electrical hookups and some of which have no hookups. Max amp electric is supported at the majority of these, although some provide only 30 amp electric. Amenities are limited. However, you'll be close enough to the city that this shouldn't matter. Exploring the City

Huntington is the biggest city in the county and should provide you with everything you'll need on your trip. If you want a change of scenery, then Fort Wayne is less than 30 miles away. Most importantly, the museum offers educational classes about a variety of political topics, including the constitution, Congress, and much more.

One of the best reasons to rent a camper in Huntington is its proximity to the Wabash and Erie Canal, so a visit to the city wouldn't be complete without going to the Forks of the Wabash. Visitors can take a tour or wander the grounds themselves, and this is the ideal place for a quick hike and a picnic.
