Patoka Lake lies in southwestern Indiana, nestled in the Hoosier National Forest between the cities of Washington, IN and Louisville, KY. The lake was created by the damming of the Patoka River during the 1970s and was built primarily for flood control, though it also provides drinking water to over sixty thousand people in nine counties. Covering over eight thousand acres Patoka Lake is the second-largest reservoir and the third-largest body of water in the whole of Indiana.
