Discover Intermediate Lake RV rentals for memorable road trips

Originally a wide river, Intermediate Lake was dammed in 1900, which was one of the first sources of hydroelectric power in Michigan. The power plant supplied electricity to a nearby town, Bellaire. Although this plant was decommissioned, the state maintains the dam because the lake is a popular recreation spot for fishermen and other people who enjoy aquatic recreational fun. Prior to damming, the river had a few large islands upon which there were a few buildings constructed, including a dance hall and a couple of restaurants. Though they have been submerged for decades, the foundations of these buildings can be seen on a clear day.

Getting Outdoors

Intermediate Lake stretches around 15 miles through dense woodlands and a patchwork of farms. The lake doesn’t get much activity when compared to the larger lakes just a few miles west, Torch Lake and Lake Michigan. In the summertime, visitors enjoy boating, kayaking, and of course, fishing. Intermediate Lake supports a coldwater fishery, and as a result, is considered one of the best rock and smallmouth bass fishing lakes in Michigan. The lake has in the past hosted bass fishing tournaments. Anglers can also expect to catch walleye, crappie, northern pike, perch, and muskellunge. Downstream, Cedar River is considered a Blue-Ribbon trout stream. There are a handful of boat launches available for the public’s use. Nearby towns also have boat rentals available.

Camping at Intermediate Lake

Skip hotels with thin walls and wake up surrounded by nature in an RV rental at Intermediate Lake. Listen to birds heralding the sunrise and owls hooting as they ready to hunt at night. There are several RV campgrounds near Intermediate Lake offering many options to pick from.

Exploring the Area

WIth many curiosities, attractions, and interesting locations, it’s a simple matter to hop into an RV motorhome and hit the road. The area is steeped in history, and many small towns dotting northern Michigan maintain museums that acknowledge their role in Michigan’s past. Guntzviller’s Spirit of the Woods Museum may well be one of the more unusual ones. The museum grew from an ordinary shed full of random artifacts to a full-fledged museum with a variety of exotic displays, including taxidermied wildlife, Native American Art, and associated artifacts, and Wild-West era weapons and tools. Continue the journey into the past by exploring historic lighthouses strung along Lake Michigan’s shore like beads on a string.

Our family rented this brand new camper for a few nights at Interlochen State Park and we had a great time. Our big kids (14 and 12) loved the bunks. We loved the very comfy queen bed (thanks Bill for upgrading the mattress) and we all enjoyed all the amenities - sheets, blankets and towels just like home, super nice campfire chairs and ladder golf! This camper has everything you need and Bill is very responsive to any questions. We'd definitely rent again if our kids go back to the fine arts camp across the street.
