With gently rolling terrain, Maybury State Park makes a welcome addition to the Michigan state park system. Maybury State Park aims to give visitors, and those that rent an RV in Wayne County, the opportunity to get involved in a range of outdoor recreational activities that otherwise may not have been able to. It offers pond fishing, many miles of hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and equestrian trails and beautiful places to picnic. There is also a working farm within the park that is open all year for visitors to explore farm life thanks to a range of demonstrations.

Getting Outdoors

A unique aspect of the park is the Maybury Track Chair Program, an initiative that encourages people to go motorhome camping in the area. The program has been created to help visitors explore areas of the park where traditional wheelchairs cannot reach. They are off-road electronic chairs that can handle many terrains, including snow, sand, and even up to 8 inches of water. The chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are free to use for the day, offering opportunities for those who may not have felt able to explore the area by themselves.

Many trails run through the park, waiting to be explored. For a start, the Maybury Hiking Trail is 6 miles in length, running mainly through the wooded area of the park. It covers easy to moderate terrain with a few hills and passes wildflowers, a small pond, and dense trees. As it stretches from one side of the park to the other, it is the perfect way to see the park on foot. There are also cross-country skiing and equestrian trails for those that are camping at Maybury State Park and want a different type of adventure.

Many people who go Maybury State Park camping also bring their bike along with them to take to the trails. There is a paved road bike trail that runs for four miles, where rollerblading is also possible, plus mountain biking trails. It runs for 5.75 miles of single track and includes some steep climbs as well as natural and man-made obstacles. As the trail is well maintained, it can also be used for beginner mountain bikers. Hiking is also permitted on this trail, although they are advised to go in the opposite direction to the bikes.
