Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.
A glacial lake in Michigan, Portage Lake, was formed around 10,000 years ago when a mile-high glacier retreated north, gouging out shallow lakes and ponds. Though it was officially discovered by European explorers in 1837, Anishinaabe Native Americans fished and swam in the lake for generations prior. It was known as “O-nek-a-ma-engk," which roughly means singing waters. At one time, Portage Lake was fed by a fast-moving stream that bounced over large boulders deposited by the glacier.
