Round Lake is well known for its rock and smallmouth bass, with many anglers making the journey to the lake to try their luck with a line. The deeper areas of Round Lake are also known to contain pete, so what you manage to catch depends largely on the area in which you are fishing. Because there are lots of other lakes in the immediate area, many people combine fishing and camping at Round Lake with fishing also on the surrounding bodies of water.
You will love to experience the mix of water-based recreation activities available on Round Lake, such as boating. Jet skiing, water skiing, and tubing are also popular past times, especially in the summer months, when the sun is warm, with the breeze from the boat offering the ideal way to cool down. Sites are spacious, and there are both electric and non-electric available, but all come with fire rings and picnic tables. There are modern facilities such as bathhouses, walk-in showers, a laundry room, sports courts, and a dog walk trail.
Another option is Petes Lake Campground, which is open in the summer months. The sites and snuggled in between mixed hardwood trees. Some of the sites are lakefront, and all have tables and rings, with about half having access to a grill. The campground also offers a swimming beach and picnic area. There are also toilets and drinking water, with plenty of parking for all guests.
Seeing as Round Lake is in the middle of a vast forest, you may have to drive a little in your rental RV to reach some of the main attractions. Just under an hour away is the famed Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, with Miners Castle being one of the most well-known sights on this shore. It has got its name from its unique rock formation and is very impressive to see. As it is the only cliff here that it is accessible by car, it is one not to miss, with incredible views of Grand Island and Lake Superior stretching out in front of you.
Round Lake campers should be sure to take a glass-bottom shipwreck tour. These tours allow you to explore the depths of Lake Superior without getting wet, and the many hidden treasures it holds. You'll be able to see a fully intact wooden sailing ship, plus some impressive caves and cliffs. The trip lasts around 2 hours, and it is a great way to see the beauty of Grand Island and Munising Bay, as well as the fish and creatures that call these waters their home.
Heading southeast of the lake, you'll find the town of Manistique, a beautiful harbor town on the shores of Lake Michigan.
