Ever heard of Laconia, New Hampshire? If not, you sure are in for a treat. This small city in the northeast United States is a shining example of an idyllic New England community out in the midst of incredible landscapes and captivating scenery, regardless of the season.

Laconia was once a small settlement on Lake Winnipesaukee called Camp Acquadocton by the Abenaki indigenous people who built it. This was a turbulent hot spot for battles between the French, English, Native Americans, and the United States during the decades before and after the Revolutionary War. After hostilities subsided, Laconia began to develop taverns, hotels, textile factories, and river mills, becoming a true utopia after the United States became a country.

Laconia is named for an area in Greece and is one of the more unique cities in the region. There are several state forests and state parks found near this gorgeous town, and miles of scenic beaches along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Book an RV in Laconia, and immerse yourself in the state’s natural beauty. Laconia is less than an hour's drive north of Manchester and Concord, two of the largest cities in the state. You can take part in a number of festivals and celebrations throughout the year too when you rent an RV in Laconia, like the New Hampshire Pumpkin Festival, the Laconia Motorcycle Week which is one of the largest in the country, and the Laconia Multicultural Festival.

The Great Outdoors

New Hampshire is an impressive place to reconnect with nature in its own right, but you don’t even need to leave Laconia in search of lovely state parks and forests during your Laconia RV rental vacation. There are several state-owned forests and parks within the city limits of Laconia, like Ahern State Park. This tiny nature park is open year-round for hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, non-motorized boating, and even snowshoeing and ice skating on the pond during the frigid winter time.

Mount Kearsarge State Forest Park and Winslow State Park combine to make a large contiguous park area with a bunch of exciting features and activities to enjoy. Mount Kearsarge State Forest Park is home to Mount Kearsarge, a towering monadnock known for its prominence and unusual shape. You can hike around or up the mountain, or check out nearby Winslow State Park with your Laconia camper rental. The park is home to a large plateau nearly 2,000 feet in elevation, with mesmerizing views of the White Mountains to the north. Bear Brook State Park is located to the south in between Concord and Manchester, with thousands of acres, making it one of the largest state parks in New Hampshire. There are miles of hiking trails, sandy beaches, swimming areas, ball courts, recreation fields, playgrounds, archery ranges, and campgrounds at this beloved state fixture.

White Mountain National Forest is essentially the closest thing the state has to a national park. This stunning forest is named for the White Mountains that are located within it, blanketing the 4,000-foot-tall mountains with evergreen groves and spectacular natural beauty. You can find over 20 campgrounds here when you rent an RV and bring it to the White Mountains, as well as several ski and snowboarding mountains and a large stretch of the infamous Appalachian Trail that stretches from Maine all the way down to Georgia.

RV Friendly

Both New Hampshire and especially Laconia are fully stocked with campgrounds, so you are in good hands when you rent an RV in town and need a place to stay the night. Hills RV Park & Campground is an adults-only park and is quite close to the center of Laconia. There are spacious campsites and enchanting views of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Singing Cove RV Park is close to Weirs Beach in town, one of the most popular summertime resort areas on the lake. This aesthetically pleasing campground has friendly staff and camping spots along the water.

Hackmatack Campground, Paugus Bay Campground, and Pine Hollow are just some of the many public campgrounds found in Laconia, giving you another series of options if you enjoy rustic camping and a basic camping setup. All could be good choices as they are never far from the city or the lakefront.

City Attractions

When walking around Laconia, you will see an incredible assortment of old buildings that were erected centuries ago before the country was even called the United States of America. The town’s railroad station, courthouse, and the Belknap Mill are all features of the town’s past, with incredible architecture and importance. There are also small restaurants, locally owned shops, outlet shopping centers, and wineries in this fun little city, and even more fun to be had in the surrounding areas.

The Laconia Historical & Museum Society is a fabulous organization that collects and protects information about Laconia's fascinating past. They maintain a museum and several historic buildings in town, helping to tell their stories while relying on hardworking and passionate volunteers to run the society and give guided tours.

The Gunstock Mountain Resort is a fantastic place to check out no matter the time of year, although winter is the best time to get the most out of it. This ski and snowboarding wonderland is one of many in the state of New Hampshire, and there you can have a tasty lunch in between trips to the slopes, or you can go tubing, zip lining, mountain biking, and more.

Over in Loudon, the New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a thrilling place to catch a race during the summer season. Motorcycle weeks and NASCAR races are held at this large racing circuit.
