Adirondack Gateway Campground

When camping in an RV at Adirondack Gateway Campground and Lodge, you'll be near several wilderness areas. Ferris Lake Wild Forest sprawls just east of the campground. Traverse nearly 15 miles of trails to experience the lush, old-growth forests, or take a short scenic drive in the motorhome rental on public access roads running through the park. Bring a kayak or canoe along, and you'll have your choice of waterways to explore, including the Sacandaga River, West Canada Creek, and East Canada Creek. Anglers can hook a variety of species in the waterways found throughout the forest, with common catches including bass, salmon, sunfish, and numerous types of trout. For some rugged wilderness explorations, head to Hinckley State Forest, just ten miles west of your campsite at Adirondack Gateway Campground. This mostly undeveloped site features impressive scenery and provides visitors with the opportunity to experience New York nature in its purest form. Forge your own forest path as you enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or cross-country skiing. The nearby Hinckley Reservoir offers opportunities for swimming, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Head two hours' drive east to check out one of the Adirondacks' most popular destinations. Lake George covers over 40 square miles, with 170 islands within its boundaries. There are docks and launch sites around the lake, and boat rentals and guided boat tours are available in the town of Lake George. If you're feeling daring, you can also go water skiing or tubing. Many local outfitters provide rental equipment and guidance for these activities. White water rafting is popular here too, with nearby river rapids at their highest during the spring and summer. There are also several popular fishing spots in Lake George. You can opt to fish from a boat or from one of the many docks on the shores. The lake is stocked with landlocked salmon, but there are a total of 36 species of fish in the water. Some other notable species include black bass, trout, and northern pike. Be sure to check fishing regulations before you go - Lake George has slightly different fishing and boating regulations than the rest of New York.
