Just off State Route 46 in Oneida County, New York, is beautiful Delta Lake State Park, which is conveniently open year-round. The park is located on a peninsula that extends from the southeast shore of Delta Lake in the town of Western. The peninsula was created when the Mohawk River was impounded in 1908 to form Delta Lake, a reservoir that was intended to supply water to the New York State Barge Canal.
In 1962, around 350 acres were leased to create a state park, and the park’s land was officially transferred along with an additional 370 acres in 2005.
