The caves are unlike most other caverns because they're formed from sandstone; instead of stalactites (upside-down cones hanging from the ceiling), the caves have been formed by wind and water shaping the floor, ceiling, and walls. Guided tours are conducted throughout the day until closing.

All of the campsites have full hookups with 50 amp electricity and either concrete or gravel pads; you can rent them by the day, week, or month, and the campground is pet-friendly.

Exploring the Area

Some interesting cities are nearby when you're RV camping near Greensboro. Carmichaels is a small borough with several entries in the National Register of Historic Places; one of them is a covered bridge. One of its unique attractions is a drive-in movie theater, and the city hosts an annual beauty pageant that is very well known in the area. If you're stopping here for a bite, there is a small but nice selection of restaurants on hand, with many more just a short drive away. You can opt for Chinese, one of the local pizzerias, or keep it simple with a family diner.

Thirty miles north of Greensboro is Crucible, a small community that formed around a coal mining operation at the turn of the 20th century. The town's restaurant scene includes a couple of family diners and hotel restaurants.

Pop up to Pittsburgh for some culture-soaked city sights. Just 90 minutes' drive north of the rural, rolling hills of Greensboro, Pittsburgh is brimming with entertainment potential. Stroll through the stunning gardens of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden and snap pics of some of the city's 400 bridges. The Pittsburgh Zoo features creatures from all over the globe and houses sharks, stingrays, and glass catfish in its aquarium.
