Getting Outdoors

Whatever type of RV camping adventure you're planning in the park, Hyner Run will never be too far away. Whether that means listening to the sound of running water as you wake up in the morning, hiking along the water's edge, or trying your luck at some fishing, you're sure to become quite familiar with this pretty little waterway by the time you leave.

For many Hyner Run State Park campers, the main attraction is the fishing. Hyner Run is well known for its excellent trout fishing, so make sure you remember to bring along a rod or two. Native brook trout can be found in the upper reaches, while brook and brown trout are also stocked annually. And if you venture outside the park, you'll also find numerous other great trout streams nearby.

If you're not much of an angler, maybe you'd prefer setting out on foot to traverse one of the local hiking trails. The best place to start is on the Long Fork Loop, which runs for just over four miles beside a creek. The going can be steep in parts, however, so you'll need a decent level of physical fitness to tackle it.

This trail is actually part of the much larger Donut Hole Trail System, which stretches for 50 miles and follows the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. If you're keen for some backpacking or longer day hikes, it's well worth checking out.

Finally, if you're camping at Hyner Run State Park over the summer months, you'll also be pleased to hear that swimming is another popular activity in the park. A wading pool and a large swimming pool are both provided, so there's plenty to keep campers of all ages happy. The pools are open from Memorial Day weekend through until Labor Day.
