Discover Lake Moultrie RV rentals for memorable road trips

Covering an area of 60,000 acres, is Lake Moultrie, the third biggest lake in South Carolina. Therefore it is hardly surprising that every year, thousands of people head there for a vacation so they can take part in the many recreational activities the lake provides. The lake was created in the early 1940s by the South Carolina Public Service Authority by the building of the Pinopolis Dam on the Cooper River.

Getting Outdoors

Fishing opportunities are abundant on Lake Moultrie because of the varied environment. There are, of course, the huge open bodies of water in which to fish, but there are also black water ponds, shallow swamps, and thousands of tree stumps, around which many fish call their home. The lake is mostly known for its catfish population, and still holds the record for channel catfish coming in at 58 pounds. Other species include largemouth bass, shell cracker bream, flathead, and white perch.

Camping at Lake Moultrie

There are plenty of places for Lake Moultrie campers to stay around the shores of the lake, which allows you easy access to the water. One of the closest places to the shores is Angel's Landing Campground. There are both short and long stay shorefront sites available that have 50 amp service and also comes with the benefit of having free boat docking. There is a lovely restaurant on site where you can pick up some dinner if you don't fancy cooking, plus there are regular events held throughout the year to help keep guests entertained.
