Peaceful, breathtaking, and unique in its own way, Caddo Lake State Park is named after the biggest naturally formed lake in the state of Texas and boasts one of the largest cypress forests in the world. This location offers a magnificent opportunity to paddle the shallows, observe the local wildlife, and simply soak up the splendor of an awe-inspiring environment.

The park entices campers from Texas, Louisiana, and beyond with its near-gothic beauty and mystique. Rising from the shallows are cypress trees cloaked in Spanish moss, while the entwined slough and ponds form marshy labyrinths that shelter a variety of species.

The most captivating feature of the park is Caddo Lake, which can span over 26,000 acres across Texas and Lousiana, depending on rainfall. The bayou's incredible sights, smooth current, and shallowness make it an ideal passage for boaters. Anglers will find plenty of sunfish, crappie, and white bass, while animal lovers will relish the opportunity to spot alligators, minks, beavers, snakes, and armadillos.

Aside from fishing and wildlife watching, this state park RV camping experience also offers plenty of other activities, including hiking, paddling, and exploring historical landmarks. Camping with an RV at Caddo Lake State Park also allows you to visit nearby towns, such as Karnack (just one mile away), Scottsville (12 miles), and Marshall (17 miles). Start planning your trip by browsing the RV rentals in Harrison County and head straight for Caddo Lake State Park.

Getting Outdoors

Hiking is a key ingredient for a quality camping experience, and Caddo Lake State Park offers both relaxing and challenging trails. The relaxing path is the Pine Ridge Loop, which leads to some of the more isolated areas of the park. On the other hand, the CCC Cut-Through trail is rather steep, even though it's only two-tenths of a mile long. Two additional trails are rated moderate and meander through the woodlands.

Campers who want to fish from the shore aren't required to have a license. The main fishing pier is located near the Saw Mill Pond, while the main boat launch facility is on Big Cypress Bayou. Expect to catch a variety of freshwater fish, like sunfish and crappie, and don't forget to pack your fishing equipment in the rental RV.

Explore the wonders of Caddo Lake State Park from a different perspective and hit the paddling trails. Embark on your adventure at the shore of Saw Mill Pond and gaze at the wild beauty of the inlets and swamps along ten different paddling trails.

Last but not least, take the opportunity to view a number of Civilian Conservation Corps structures, including the rec hall, cabins, pavilion, and picnic sites.

Camping at Caddo Lake State Park

The Caddo Lake State Park campground is divided into four major camping areas, all of which offer convenient access to restrooms. The Woodpecker Hollow Campground has eight sites, each of which comes with full hookups, a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. The most noteworthy feature of this campsite is the small creek that meanders through the center of the campground.

The Armadillo Run and Squirrel Haven camping areas boasts 18 sites with 30-amp electric hookups, water hookups, fire rings, and picnic tables. The majority of sites are shaded and paved.

Finally, the Mill Pond Camping Area features 20 tent sites. This area isn't designed for RV camping, but it can accommodate small tents and trailers. Here, you'll find drinking water, fire pits, picnic tables, and an outdoor grill.
