Discover Coolidge

The Great Outdoors

Just a short drive south of Coolidge is the Fort Parker State Park in Mexia. With several different trail options leading you through the forest and a marked out kayak/canoe trail leading you through the lake and Navasota River, there is so much to explore in this hidden gem of a park. You can hike along the dramatic, classic Texas limestone bluffs, get a relatively close view of a blue heron nesting ground, and also visit a cemetery of the earliest settlers to Limestone County. You can also take advantage of plenty of fishing options, as well as swimming locations if you’d rather just spend some time enjoying the lake.

On the southern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area is the Cedar Hill State Park in Cedar Hill. At this park, you can see three Texas environments blur into one: the limestone hills of the Hill Country, the prairie land of North Texas, and the lush woods of East Texas. If you enjoy biking, you can head out on the DORBA Trail, a challenging trail designed for hikers and bikers that covers the entire southern third of the park. You can do three, eight, or 12 miles of this trail and treat yourself to stunning views of Joe Pool Lake as well as feel yourself zoom through the trees and grasslands.

Named after the famed war hero himself, the Davy Crockett National Forest near Lufkin makes for a wonderful day trip with the Coolidge campervan rental. This towering pine forest is the classic East Texas wilderness destination. At roughly 160,000 acres of land, Davy Crockett beckons wilderness explorers to head out on the miles upon miles of trails, including the 20-mile Four C National Recreation Trail. You can also enjoy Ratcliff Lake and get yourself a kayak or canoe and explore the tranquil lake from the water.

RV Parks

When you secure an RV rental in Coolidge, you may want to seek out some RV sites so you can rest and recharge to keep your Texas adventure going. Luckily enough, there are a few options in the area worth considering.

Just on the eastern side of town is the Lakeside RV Park. At Lakeside, guests can expect full hookups and laundry facilities. Guests will also be able to make use of the stocked fishing pond and fishing boats.

A short drive south of town is Lee’s RV Park. At Lee’s, guests will have access to full hookups and a dump station. Guests will also have access to Wi-Fi.

Explore the City

When you choose to rent an RV in Coolidge, make sure to schedule some extra time to explore the local area. You can learn a lot about a local community just by spending a little bit of time in it, and you are definitely going to want to explore what the local area has to offer.

Just south of town is the Confederate Reunion Grounds. This park was once used by Confederate soldiers and their families as a meeting place after the Civil War, as a way to stay connected and continue to support each other while the South recovered. Today, you can see a cannon from the Civil War and a few historic buildings. Re-enactors occasionally stage events or educational performances to teach locals and visitors about the Civil War.

If you have a need for speed, then head to the Prairie Hill Dragway. You can watch souped-up cars race against each other or even put your tires to the pavement yourself. Sometimes you can even meet the racers and learn about what they do to prepare their cars.

Traveling to Texas in the summer? Head over to BSR Cable Park near Waco to beat that infamous Texas heat. Here, you can relax in the lazy river, challenge yourself to some surfing in the wave pool, or head down the giant waterslide that launches you into the air before landing you in the pool.

When spending time in Texas, make sure you find yourself a local Tex-Mex place to indulge in some of the best fusion food out there. Whether you’re looking for tacos, fajitas, or enchiladas, you are sure to find them at any Tex-Mex eatery.

When you find yourself needing to restock and refuel your RV rental in Coolidge, you do have a couple of options to choose from in town. However, you will find more options farther east along Route 171 toward Mexia.
