Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.
The first known settler was Issac Batterson, who moved to the area with his family in 1833. He purchased a portion of the land from a Texan rancher who owned several thousand acres. Once the Batterson home was built, a few other residents moved in and built homes nearby. The colony, which was originally named Clinton, didn’t really take off till the early 1900s. At that time, Clinton applied for a post office to make things official, and the request was rejected on the premise that there was another town with the same name. The name, Galena Park, was chosen in a nod to the Galena-Signal Oil Company, which was a major employer at the time. With the new name, the request was approved.
