The Great Outdoors

Take your luxury RV rental form Hamshire over the state line and visit the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge, in Louisiana. Covering over 124,000 acres and including several lakes, it’s the largest marsh refuge on the Gulf Coast. Around 200 species of birds can be found here including ducks, geese, cormorants, egrets, and other wading birds. Other animals include American alligators, American mink, otter and turtles, among others. From the visitor center, you can collect a guide to the Wetland Walkway which takes you on a 1.5-mile nature trail through the refuge. Along the route are an observation tower and knowledge stations with information on the Gulf Coast and the marshland.

RV Parks

One of the benefits, when you rent a motorhome in Hamshire, is the proximity to the coastline and the High Island RV Park could be a great base for exploring the area. It’s only a small campground, with just 25 sites, but they all have electrical hook-up, free WiFi and free ice! There’s no swimming pool, but it’s located right on the Gulf of Mexico for swimming and strolls on the beach. You’ll also find wash-rooms and laundry on site, and there’s a free ferry to Galveston plus restaurants and shops are only a block away.

Exploring the City

As a small community, Hamshire is a little limited on amenities but does have a couple of cafes and a gas station. The nearby town of Winnie has a much wider selection of restaurants including Mexican, Chinese, a steakhouse and a range of fast-food places.

We had a great time on our trip. The Theriots were great to work with and setup the trailer wonderfully. We had everything we needed. The camper was very comfortable for ours and our college age kids. Renting allowed us to have a fun weekend at Martin Dies Jr State Park with friends who own trailers. Would and rent from them again and likely might do so.
