Lake Tawakoni is an ideal escape for your weekend motorhome camping trip. Located in northeast Texas, Lake Tawakoni is about 48 miles from the city of Princeton and 63 miles from Dallas, and renting an RV is a good way to explore these cities on your trip. Covering over 36,000 acres of surface area and with a 200-mile long shoreline, the lake is a popular haunt for boating, swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, duck hunting and more. Located alongside the lake is the Lake Tawakoni State Park, a 360-acre park that offers stunning views of the lake, in addition to a range of outdoor activities. Book an RV in Hunt County to discover everything around the lake and its nearby areas.

The area around the lake was inhabited by prehistoric people, and more recently by Native American tribes, earning it the name of Tawakoni after one of the tribes. Thereafter, ranchers and settlers occupied it, till it was eventually turned into a reservoir with the main intention of providing water to the nearby communities and city of Dallas. Now it serves the dual purpose of providing recreational opportunities to visitors, in addition to its primary purpose of water supply. Camping at Lake Tawakoni is especially fun for anglers, as the lake is also referred to as the "Catfish Capital of Texas."
