The Great Outdoors

Just outside of Little Elm are a number of recreational and nature parks including Beard Park, Little Elm Park, Cottonwood Park, Union Park, and McCord Park, all of which are pleasant locations for walking, swimming, picnicking, and enjoying the great outdoors. Connecting Hydrous Wakeparks and McCord Park is the four-mile Lakeside Trail which is perfect for walkers, cyclists, and runners. For something a little shorter, the Cottonwood Nature Trail is a 1.5-mile trail through one of the most well-kept parks in the area, with opportunities for lake swimming along the way.

To see something a bit more rural you can drive your Little Elm RV rental to Arbor Hills Nature Preserve where you can find a 200-acre park with paved and unpaved trails as well as designated off-road cycling trails. This nature preserve is home to three diverse eco-regions; Upland Forest, Blackland Prairie, and Riparian Forest.

If you’re willing to drive a little farther in your Little Elm motorhome rental then Dinosaur Valley State Park, 100 miles southwest, is a great choice. Walk in the footprints of prehistoric dinosaurs in the Paluxy Valley or take a picnic and enjoy a leisurely lunch in the park. Visitors can also get active on 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, swim in the clean waters of Brazos River, go horseback riding through the forests, or take a scenic ride in a horse-drawn wagon. There’s plenty for nature and history lovers, too, with 113-million-year-old dinosaur tracks to follow through the park and a variety of wildlife species to spot. Those with a keen eye and quiet feet can see white-tailed deer, armadillo, opossums, and coyotes, bobcat, and a variety of rodents and lizards as well as the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo. The park is also home to Texas sugarberry, American elm, bur oak, sycamore, black willow, and Ashe juniper. Due to the diversity of the park visitors can find different species of plants in each region. On the way to Dinosaur Valley State Park, you can take a break at the Cleburne State Park, Cedar Hill State Park, or Redwood America.
