Louise is in Wharton County, Texas. It was established in 1881 when the railroad arrived, and a stop was declared. The railroad VP at the time, Colonel Hungerford named the train stop after his daughter (another nearby city was named after his other daughter, Edna). Prior to 1881, the land was used for grazing free-range cattle. A post office was established in 1888 and in 1901, the area was surveyed, and plans for the town were drafted. The men who initiated the town built a hotel, a bank, and a mercantile store. Shortly after, rice was planted, and deepwater wells were drilled to irrigate the rice fields; cotton, corn, and milo joined the rice as major crops, and the area became a major agricultural resource until oil was discovered in 1930. These two industries continued to be the source of the town's economy and still are today.

Book an RV in Wharton County, and you are ready to head out on a unique adventure that only RVs can provide. There are other towns that are worth visiting in addition. Columbus is the home of the Colorado County Courthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Bay City was one of several filming locations for the 1965 movie Baby the Rain Must Fall. Palacios was the final resting place of the shipwreck La Belle, which was discovered at the bottom of the bay in 1995. Edna is a prosperous area whose economy is based on agriculture, petroleum and natural gas production, and oilfield service industries; it has several grain elevators. Your Louise travel trailer rental is your invitation to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

The Great Outdoors

Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge is a coastal prairie habitat that was developed to protect the once abundant bird species that is now endangered. Coastal prairie habitats were also once common to Texas but fell victim to urbanization. There are several trails where visitors can hike and enjoy the tall grass, butterflies, and flowers, but guests should be wary of and avoid alligators and venomous snakes. Red ants should also be avoided, and guests should pack insect repellant. There is an auto tour loop through the park with kiosks and panels that explain what visitors are seeing.

San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1969 to provide refuge for migrating bird species, such as ducks and geese migrating south for the winter, and neotropical migratory songbirds that have crossed the Gulf of Mexico on their way north to their breeding grounds. The park is a popular destination for photographers, nature lovers, and those seeking educational programs about the environment. Park your Louise camper rental nearby, and you can enjoy a hot meal between activities or retire to comfort when you're done (or both).

Mad Island WMA is a nature preserve consisting of fresh, intermediate, brackish, and saline marshland and flat coastal prairie. Visitors can keep a vigil for the wide variety of bird, mammal, reptile, and amphibian species such as sandhill cranes, white-tailed deer, and more. The landscape is nearly level and poorly drained, so visitors should wear appropriate footwear. Hunting for waterfowl, alligators, and feral hogs is permitted on specialized and scheduled hunts.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in the area; your Louise RV trailer rental is your guarantee of a relaxing and fun-filled vacation.

Pincher's RV Park is a developed RV campground that was completed in 2012. It has restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a convenience store and on-site restaurant. It has trees, and the roads are paved. Individual sites have concrete pads, grass yards, back-in or pull-through access, and electrical outlets.

Exploring The City

There is lots to see and do in and around Louise. There is a museum of natural history with a variety of animals posed in replications of their habitats; staff members are friendly and knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions. One of the museum's areas allows kids to dress up as veterinarians and tend to sick and injured stuffed animals, pretend to shop at a grocery store, or teach a pretend class. There is a bowling center and a hang gliding center where guests can soar elbow to elbow with their instructors. Those who would like a tamer adventure should check out a local wine bar where you can sample the products while enjoying the nature views. Don't forget to take your Louise motorhome rental for a spin around the local highways. Driving an RV is a unique experience; it's something everyone should experience at least once.

When it's time to start thinking about where to eat, Louise is a good place to be. There is a good selection of cuisines in and around Louise, and most of them are reasonably priced. One of the local Greek restaurants serves seafood, steaks, pasta, and more in a nice setting with live music at various times. Diners eating here should try the fried mushrooms or the grilled quail with rice and vegetables. Portions are big so expect to take your leftovers home to your Louise luxury RV rental for a late-night snack or next day's lunch. Nothing says vacation like enjoying good food in your favorite lawn chair as the sun sets and the stars come out, so enjoy it while you can.
