Discover Plano rentals for memorable road trips

The Lone Star State is an RVer’s dream - a combination of wide-open spaces and exciting cities, with a diverse landscape that becks those looking for adventure. Of course, in such an enormous state, you’ll have to pick and choose your destinations. Start your search for an RV in Collin County, and plan the ultimate escape.

One of the best RV rental cities is Plano, Texas, just a half-hour drive from downtown Dallas, and while it feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of America’s fourth largest metropolitan area, you’ll still find all the amenities you could ask for, and at a relatively low cost. With wide streets and manageable traffic, renting an RV in Plano is the perfect vacation. If renting an RV and driving in through city streets seems daunting, you can always park it and take public transportation, like the DART light railway system.

RV Parks

While Plano doesn’t have quite as many RV parks as the nearby Dallas area, it has enough to accommodate the relatively small number of travelers willing to stray from the beaten path and explore this great city. RV renters in Plano will be pleased to with the super convenient Spring Creek Village, which is one of the only RV parks located within Plano’s city limits. It’s across the street from a Costco, Wal-Mart’s just five minutes away, and fuel is available at the Costco or at a number of nearby fillings stations. If you want to park your RV rental and take a trip into Dallas on public transport, you can catch the train at the DART’s Parker Road Station, a 20-minute walk from Spring Creek Village. If you’re open to leaving your RV rental a few miles outside Plano, your options become much more abundant. Hidden Acres RV Park, Lafon’s RV Park, Lake Lavon RV Park, and Lakeland RV Ranch are all located near the shores of the beautiful Lake Lavon - a half-hour drive east of Plano. Go half an hour west, and you’ll find quite a few sites surrounding Lewisville Lake, including Stewart Creek Park, Lake Park Campground, and Hickory Creek campgrounds, most of which have RV hookups. Both lakes offer tranquil views, fishing opportunities, and a chance to relax in nature. However, you’ll either need to have a separate car to drive into Plano or be able to find a parking space when you rent an RV in Plano, Texas .

Outdoor Activities

After long hours on the road, there’s nothing like getting out in nature to stretch your legs. Just 25 minutes from downtown Plano is the 200-acre Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. There, you’ll find several miles of paved and unpaved paths for hiking and biking. It’s the perfect place to get some exercise after all your time on the road or to take the family to enjoy a picnic. The amphitheater on the park’s western edge occasionally plays host to concerts and other performances, so check their calendar for dates and times. If you want to get in a longer hike, you can also cross into the adjacent Bob Woodruff Park, which has another few miles of trail. For a more adrenaline-fueled activity, Go Ape Zipline provides hours of fun as you climb rope ladders, shimmy across narrow walkways high in the forest canopy, and swing through the trees like Tarzan. If you’re interested in heading further afield with your rental RV from Plano, check out Waco Mammoth National Monument, two hours south of Plano, just outside the city of Waco . Here, you’ll find the world’s largest concentration of mammoth skeletons. You’ll want to give this one a visit if you’ve ever been curious about paleontology or the massive beasts that once roamed the hills of Texas, or if you just like getting off the beaten path. This area received national monument status less than a decade ago and is still relatively unknown to most tourists. For an even longer adventure, journey down to Big Bend National Park in the state’s southwest corner. It’s one of the largest national parks in the U.S., and cactus-covered trails fan out in all directions, offering endless opportunities for exploration. And you’ll probably have it to yourself: due to Big Bend’s remote location, it sees very few visitors.

Exploring the City

When you book an RV rental in Plano , there’s no reason to rush out of the city, though. One of the most popular attractions in Plano is the Shops at Legacy, an outdoor mall populated with boutique clothing stores and mouthwatering restaurants. If that doesn’t sound like your thing, head to the Interurban Railway Museum to embark on a journey through the history of the Texas Electric Railway – it’s a must-see for any railroad enthusiast. Or if you’re more of an art aficionado, check out the Gallery @ Courtyard, which features a variety of works from local artists and has new exhibits every six weeks. Film buffs will enjoy the Angelika Film Centre, a beautiful five screen Art Deco-inspired independent theater showing movies from around the world and art house features you won’t see anywhere else. While Plano might not have any Michelin-starred restaurants to speak of, this is still the Lone Star State, so you know there’s going to be some great food. You’ll find some of the best South-of-the-Border cuisine as well as unforgettable barbecue. Seeking more of a big city cultural experience? The DART will have you there in a little over an hour, while your RV rental remains in Plano -- no worries about parking!
