The Great Outdoors

Since Roanoke sits on the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro Area in the Central Texas Plains, visitors to the city can easily access some of the best parks that Texas has to offer. The Bob Jones Nature Center in neighboring Southlake offers a handful of hiking and horseback riding trails along Grapevine Lake as well as environmental education programs for visitors interested in learning more about the area’s ecosystem. If you’re interested in learning more about the Central Texas Plains, you can also check out the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. This nature center features over 15 miles of trails and a canoe launch, and it also is home to some of the last remaining Great Plains bison. Fort Richardson State Park also offers visitors a unique learning experience at a restored post-Civil War military fort as well as hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing opportunities.
