It was named after Nathaniel Silsbee who provided funds for the Gulf, Beaumont and Kansas City Railway that transformed the town’s fortunes in 1894. It served the Kirby Lumber Company, which was Silsbee’s main industry during its earliest years when it was known as Mill Town.
