Getting Outdoors

Fishing is quite popular at Steinaker Lake. Anglers frequent this body of water during spring and summer because the weather is perfect for spending an entire day in a boat. This lake is home to several fish species, and you might catch largemouth bass, rainbow trout, bluegill, or green sunfish. In winter, Steinaker Lake becomes a destination for ice fishing. There is a small bait shop near the lake, but it might not be as well equipped as the stores in the nearby Vernal. If you forgot to pack the fishing gear in your rental RV, you may get it once you arrive at the lake.

Camping at Steinaker Lake

Steinaker State Park Campground is located on the shores of the lake, providing the visitors with gorgeous views of the scenery. This campground can accommodate long vehicles and has about thirty sites with concrete surfaces for RVs. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. Steinaker Lake campers may use showers, restrooms, picnic areas, and playgrounds. Unfortunately, the campground does not have WiFi.

Exploring the Area

Vernal is a small community in the eastern part of Utah with an incredibly rich history. It is known worldwide for the Dinosaur National Monument. When you happen to be camping Steinaker Lake, this place is a must-see. Utah was heavily populated by dinosaurs, and a paleontologist named Earl Douglass discovered the first fossil beds in 1909. This 210,844-acre park became a National Monument in 1915. Nowadays, tourists flock to the Dinosaur National Monument to see the fossils embedded in the rocks. The quarry is the most popular site among the visitors because it has over 1,500 bones from ten different species of dinosaurs, including Abydosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Allosaurus. Should you want to see more, there are petroglyphs at several locations within the park. These were created by the people who inhabited this part of the United States thousands of years ago.
