Nicknamed “Dinosaurland,” Vernal is a strange but lovely mountain town in the northeastern corner of Utah, close to the Colorado state line. When you rent an RV in town and see just how amazing it is in person, it will remain an absolute mystery how there aren’t more people living there.

Vernal has the unique distinction of being one of the only towns in the state not founded by Mormon missionaries. After Mormon exploratory parties were sent to the area, they determined there was nothing of value in the harsh, desert lands of Vernal. Later, in 1868, the area around Vernal was set aside for the Uintah Native Reservation. After the first cabin was built in Vernal, lots of East Coast settlers began to pour into the area to make a new life for themselves.
