Anglers who book an RV in Uintah County have several options for great places to fish. Zelph Calder Reservoir is one of those great spots. The first inhabitants of Uintah County were likely bands of Archaic-period Native Americans and Fremont Indians. When American settlers arrived, the inhabitants were Native Americans from the Uintah band of the Ute Indian tribe. The tribe also gave Utah its name.

The first European settlers were fur trappers who arrived in the 1830s. At the time, Utah’s territory was still part of Mexico. The trappers set up trading posts in Uintah County. In the 1840s, followers of Brigham Young explored the area. During the Civil War, the United States government dedicated the area as a reservation for Utah and Colorado tribes. Currently, the area is one of the highest natural gas producing areas in the United States. The area around Zelph Calder Reservoir also has mines of gilsonite, iron, copper, gold, silver, and coal.
