Getting Outdoors

Curl your toes into the coffee-colored sands at Lake Elmore and bask in the rising sun before taking a refreshing dip into the aquamarine waters. Located at the base of the rugged Elmore Mountain, this expansive lake provides swimming to all ages in an inspired setting. It’s no wonder that Elmore campers of all ages flock to the 219-acre lake to canoe, kayak, and pedal boat among such beauty.

If you can pull yourself away from the alluring lake, then lace up your hiking shoes for a journey up Mount Elmore, where spectacular sights await you. Travel through rugged woodlands for just under two miles and come out on top where a fire tower awaits you at the summit. Got the kids with you? Grab an educational brochure from the park and stroll the half-mile Mountain Brook Nature Trail, designed as a display of local history. Keep an eye out for numbered posts which contain a plethora of educational information on topics from Vermont’s forest history to vibrant wildflowers. Breathe in the sweet scents of apple trees and snap photos of some fascinating facets of Vermont culture.

Pull out your picnic basket and enjoy a hearty meal with all your favorite people in the tranquil setting of Elmore State Park. Rent a luxurious picnic pavilion for a day event or take advantage of one of the many picnic tables peppered throughout the park grounds. The fun doesn’t have to end with a meal, as the whole family can join in on volleyball at the net in the day-use field. Not a fan of volleyball? Bring a fishing pole on down to Lake Elmore and reel in a picture-worthy fish for the flawless finish to a wonderful afternoon.

Camping at Elmore State Park

Although motorhome camping here is primitive – meaning there are no hookups available – the park does offer flush toilets, drinking water, coin-operated hot showers, and a dump station.
