In the Northern Blue Ridge Highlands of Virginia, Christiansburg is one of Virginia’s largest towns. Originally inhabited by Shawnee and other Native American tribes, the area was later settled by Dutch immigrants. The town experienced significant growth during the early 1800s with much of the residents living on what is now Main Street and Cross Street. Though a fire destroyed much of the downtown area in 1900, the town continued to experience vigorous growth. Today, Christiansburg serves as the county seat of Montgomery County and boasts a unique downtown area where history and culture meld to create an unforgettable place and experience.
