Fredericksburg / Washington DC South KOA

The Washington D.C. area provides lots of outdoor activities due in part to its proximity to the Potomac River, which has numerous state parks and nature preserves along its banks, making this the perfect place for camping with an RV. Caledon State Park is one of the best parks close to Fredericksburg, and this heavily wooded park is a popular spot for birdwatchers, with bald eagles calling Caledon State Park home during the summer months. Hikers can take advantage of one of the ten hiking trails, including Boyd's Hole Trail, which runs for two miles along the Potomac River. Scenic views of the surrounding marshlands and forests make this a favorite among visitors. Another park worth visiting when you book an RV in Spotsylvania County is Bull Run Regional Park. Close to the outskirts of Washington D.C. this park covers over 1,500 acres of woodlands and fields and features large picnic areas, playgrounds, and even a waterpark. Bull Run Regional Park is a hiker's paradise, with multiple trails including the Bluebell Trail that makes a one-and-a-half-mile loop around the forest through a variety of wildflowers. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Occoquan Trail instead. This trail runs for almost 20 miles through forests and along streams, boardwalks, and more. If you're a fan of water sports, there are few better spots than Widewater State Park. This park is located where a creek runs into the Potomac River, making it an excellent place for fishing. Largemouth bass, catfish, and perch can all be caught at this location. Boating is also popular here, and the park features boat launches for canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks. However, swimming is prohibited due to strong currents. There's also the Long Pond Trail that runs for roughly a mile along the riverbanks, giving panoramic views of the Potomac River.
