Monroe Bay Campground

Between the recreation parks on the Potomac River and the amazing beaches lining the nearby Chesapeake Bay, there are several places where you can immerse yourself in nature. Westmoreland State Park has over a thousand acres to explore along the Potomac River, and the amazing Horsehead Cliffs overlooking it offer panoramic views. Here you can find a bevy of hiking trails winding through the woods, and there are cabins, historic sites, a boat ramp, a pool, a gift shop, and a visitor center too. Caledon State Park also rests alongside the Potomac River, north of Monroe Bay Campground. The park was once owned by the Alexander brothers, who founded Alexandria outside of the nation’s capital. Aside from its amazing waterfront where guests may fish, boat, or swim, the park is a wonderful place to hike. It was even designated a National Natural Landmark thanks to its old-growth tulip poplar forest. Belle Isle State Park is located south of Monroe Bay Campground on the Rappahannock River, another beautiful waterway with dazzling views and lots to offer. The park is home to a Georgian-style mansion as well as a colonial-revival style plantation house, two more historic sites to add to your list when you rent an RV near Monroe Bay Campground. There is an RV-friendly campground on-site, along with boat ramps, boat rentals, bike trails, hiking paths, and more. If you really want to feel awestruck by the beauty of Virginia, drive your motorhome rental west to Shenandoah National Park. Virginia’s lone national park is absolutely inspiring, especially when you drive along its famous Skyline Drive, traversing the Blue Ridge Mountains and all the jaw-dropping scenery that comes with the territory. Camp out beneath the stars, hike part of the Appalachian Trail, and enjoy the drive when you visit this national treasure in western Virginia.
