Getting Outdoors

Guests who plan to visit and partake in motorhome camping at this state park will discover plenty of outdoor activities to try out. Because of its vast size, this park is perfect for hiking. It includes over 13 miles of both paved and unpaved trails for walking. There are also 10 miles of trails for horseback riding.

Due to its location next to Banks Lake, Steamboat Rock State Park is also ideal for water sports. The park features a 320-foot dock as well as various fishing locations around the lake. Vacationers are able to go swimming, fishing, kayaking, and boating. However, for those who plan to take their boat out on the water, you do need to have a permit to do so. A permit is also necessary for fishing.

This park is also a great place to go rock climbing. Rock climbers can crawl up Steamboat Rock which towers over the area at 700 feet. While there are some difficult sections on it, most of the rock is fairly easy to climb on. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with some stunning panoramic views of the park.

For those who plan to visit during the winter, the park offers many different winter sports to try out. This includes skiing and snowshoeing. You could also go ice fishing in Banks Lake. While here, you could try catching some rainbow trout, walleyes, or bluegills.

Camping at Steamboat Rock State Park

For those who are looking to book an RV in Grant County, can do so at Steamboat Rock State Park. The campground offers 136 full-hookup sites for motorhomes that are no longer than 50 foot. It also has amenities such as a dump station, showers, and ADA-accessible restrooms. There is a fee to stay at the campground and reservations for your RV rental are usually needed in advance. If you happen to forget to bring something or need to stock up on some necessities, the park has a small store which sells ice, food, and fishing supplies.

During the summer, the campground is heavily covered in mosquitoes. To help combat this problem, the state park service has mosquito control units traveling around. While this helps to limit the amount of these insects, they are still abundant. Because of this, it’s important for guests to take care and protect themselves with long clothing or bug spray.

Exploring the Area
