Deer Run Trail is a self-guided interpretive trail which is in the Wildlife Observation Area. Other interesting trails include Ridgetop Tail, Blackwater River Trail, and Monarch Trail, to name a few. There are a few different camping options at Canaan Valley Resort State Park, with 34 sites to pick from in the state park RV campgrounds. The campsite has a number of amenities including paved, wooded access with full hookups, a comfort station with laundry and shower facilities that can be used all year round, ice and firewood available for purchase and a dump station for self-contained units.
Exploring the Area
When in the area, be sure to make a stop off at the Seneca Caverns, a karst show cave in German Valley. Visitors can enjoy cave tours, adventure caving, gemstone mining, and much more. The caves have been open since 1928 and feature unique geological formations that are visually stunning. For some family fun, gemstone mining is very popular, giving folks the chance to discover their very own take-home treasure. Buy the mining rough at the gift shop, and then use the on-site sluice to sift through for glittering gemstones.
