If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, you might want to consider getting an RV rental in Canyon, California. As the name suggests, this very small town is located at the bottom of a canyon, which means that most of its roads run through the live oak forests on the hillsides to the chaparral on the ridge. It’s easy to assume that this is a hard place to get to, but California State Route 13 is close by and from here you can effortlessly reach Interstate 580.

Larger cities that it would be a shame to miss with your camper rental in Canyon include the port city of Oakland, and also Richmond, where you can explore both San Francisco and San Pablo Bay. Should you want some inland recreation instead, both Briones and Redwood Regional Parks are just a short drive away from your luxury RV rental in Canyon. More locally you’ll find Montclair with roads serpentining through the small city as well as Moraga, home of several Olympic medalists. If you keep going for a little bit, you can find out what the hilly city of Lafayette has to offer.

Discover Canyon

The Great Canyon Outdoors

Just a stone’s throw from your travel trailer rental in Canyon, you’ll find Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, an old park where you can hike on trails while admiring the beautiful hillsides and majestic bedrock formations, as well as the breathtaking East Bay skyline. In the visitor center, anyone with an interest in geology can learn more about the preserve’s formations, including the Round Top, which has given the park its name. Don’t worry though, the volcano is not active.

Should you want to swap mountain tops for green hills and open water, the man-made reservoir that makes up Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area can also be reached easily with your RV trailer rental in Canyon. The hiking trails here go through both wooded areas and open grass fields, which makes it an ideal spot for a yummy picnic. There’s a playground where kids can entertain themselves for hours, and in the reservoir, you can go boating and fishing - the water might not always be suitable for swimming, but the fish is fine to eat with some precautions.

If you would like the chance to spot some animals in their natural habitat, a trip to Las Trampas Regional Wilderness is something to consider. There’s a large trail system through remote, rugged woodlands and animals such as foxes, bobcats, and skunks live in the area, as do many deer. If you look up, you might get a glimpse of a golden eagle, and when you’ve crossed all the species off your list, there’s a lovely picnic facility, large enough for a big party if you make reservations.

RV Parks in Canyon

Although there are many campsites and parks around, finding an RV park for your motorhome rental in Canyon might prove to be tricky, but that is of little importance seeing as you don’t have to drive far to find great spots to spend a night or two. If you drive towards San Francisco, you’ll arrive at the beautiful Candlestick RV Park after about 40 minutes. Here you’ll have full hookups as well as access to both showers and a laundromat - very handy after hours in the gorgeous sun.

Also 40 minutes away from your best RV rental in Canyon, Fairpark RV is located. This park has full hookups, is gated and has bathroom and laundry facilities. You might, however, want to stock up on snacks, picnic food, and gas before going back to Canyon seeing as opportunities to do this in town are very limited. You won’t have to go far to get what you need though: both Moraga and Montclair have plenty of both grocery stores and gas stations.
Exploring Canyon

Seeing as the town is so small, there’s not a lot to do in the actual area. Don’t let that discourage you if you want to book an RV in Canyon though, because it’s a very unique place with a lot to see, well worth a visit. Since Moraga is just around the corner, you can start the exploring here.

There’s a shopping center which could come in handy should your shoes all of a sudden go out of style, and just across the street, you’ll find the fascinating Moraga Art Gallery. Here you can see art by both local artists and guests, in many different kinds of media. Some of the pieces are both functional and for sale, so you can buy some one-of-a-kind pottery or jewelry to bring back home to friends and family.

At the farmers market, there are even more local products to try and buy: all kinds of seasonal vegetables and meat found in the area. Everything is brought to you by family farms, and even though the market might seem small, it’s said to be one of the best in California. Since it’s held weekly, there’s not a lot of planning involved in order not to miss it, and if you happen to visit during the holidays, you’ll get the chance to both meet Santa and the Easter Bunny - not at the same time, of course.

If you still haven’t had enough of what the area can offer, at the local vineyard you can take a tour around the vineyards and have a wine tasting while munching on cheese and homemade bread. Buy as many bottles as you’d like, and if you’re still a bit peckish, you can find lots of food in Morega: from authentic Roman cuisine to Chinese noodles and a big, juicy burger. Don’t forget to ask for a doggy bag so that you can take the leftovers back to the RV rental in Canyon.
